The WSOP Will Be Live in 2021!

The original plan was that, like last year, that the WSOP would only be partially live and primarily played online. The same platforms as last year should be available for this purpose. Now came the very good news that the WSOP will take place live this year.

The venue has already been determined

With the declining coronavirus pandemic, there is no longer a reason to hold the WSOP online. That is why the venue has already been determined, and the choice fell on the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The time period when the WSOP will take place has also already been set: from November 4th to 17th.

Further details are not yet available, and the organizer keeps a low profile. Perhaps it is because they fear another wave of infections, and the tournament might take place online after all. But all of this is just speculation, and there may be other reasons why the details have either not yet been determined or simply not disclosed.

The only thing that is already certain is the main event. This took place live last year and so it will also be done this year. The main event, with which the new world champion is determined, should last four days. However, this is all the information currently available; further details have not yet been determined.

How many players are there at a table?

How many players are allowed to sit at a table at the main event and whether there is still a mask requirement? We don’t know yet. All of this is due to the further spread of infections: if the pandemic is definitely combated by November, the same rules as before could apply.

Last year there was also a special feature, as there were basically two main events. One took place in the Czech Republic and one in the USA. Only the winners from both events came together in the USA to play the poker world championship live. The number of pre-events that there will be this year is also not yet certain; nevertheless, all poker fans are happy that the games are finally taking place live again. However, also what will happen with the viewers has also not yet been determined.

It is also surprising that the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas has once again been chosen as the venue. This resort was sold by Caesars, and the rights for the WSOP are still with the Caesars, which is why it was no longer available as a venue. Experts are therefore all the more surprised that the new buyer continues to make the resort available for the WSOP.

However, this will not be the case for much longer. The new buyer Hyatt has special plans with the Rio and wants to extensively rebuild it. The aim is to create two separate hotel towers. The casinos of the hotel are also to be changed and given a new branding. If the Rio will no longer made available for the WSOP event, the players and fans will not be happy. After all, a special era is coming to an end with the renovation of the casino.

Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino known as the Poker Casino

So far, the Rio has been known worldwide as a poker casino. That was because Caesars took over the resort in 1999 and the WSOP has been played there ever since. Originally the resort was built for the locals and for this reason was located a few meters from the famous Vegas Strip.

Over time, it became known as a casino for all poker fans, even though the casino is over 100.000 square meters large. Of course, the dimensions allow for other games to also be enjoyed at the casino. What it will look like in the future is unclear. It is also unclear in which resort the WSOP will be played in the future.

Registrations for the WSOP can still be made until August. This means that many players still have enough time to practice. Anyone who would like to take part in the WSOP can even practice online.
